Janet Rivers, Wakefield Co-operative Bank’s Community Relationship Manager, visited the Roosevelt Elementary School in Melrose on Community Reading Day held on May 19, 2022. Community Reading Day is one of the ways Melrose Schools and the Bank participate in the National Education Association’s Read Across America program.
After a brief introduction, Janet read to a 1st grade class of approximately 18 students. Janet read the book Frog and Toad Are Friends by Arnold Lobel. The class listened intently to Janet’s enthusiastic reading style. “The children were a wonderful group! I enjoyed reading to the class and listening to their thoughts on what it means to be a patient and understanding friend, like the main character, Frog.” commented about her visit.
As Wakefield Co-operative Bank’s community liaison, Janet enjoys spending time visiting schools in Lynnfield, Melrose and Wakefield to participate in reading and financial literacy programs.
The book brought by Janet was donated to the school library for other children to enjoy.
